SYNOPSIS OF THE PROGRAM (GLOBAL CONTEXT)

Traditionally, corporate security training and compliance has relied on lower levels of competencies namely awareness, recall and knowledge retention an aspect that continue to expose organization and institutions to risk, loses and adverse consequences. Notably, such lower-level training compliance competencies overlooks emerging modern dynamic and complex corporate security that call for higher competencies of application and design such as adaptive risk mitigation strategies, customization and operational efficiency. Thus, rather than usual security training that aim to impact competencies at awareness and knowledge retention level, Pan-African Shield College seeks to inculcate higher levels of competencies that integrate evidence-based models and principles with occupation performance competencies essential for an adaptive modern security manager. This will be achieved through our tailor-made and carefully selected units namely; transformation security awareness, adaptive security management architecture, security of critical infrastructure, physical protection systems: principles, concepts and their embedment in security function, security managers & disasters, security system integration and protection officer code of ethics.

RATIONALE OF THE PROGRAM

Infrastructures and organizations ranging from banking, health, transport, aviation, manufacturing, hospitality, education, telecommunications to energy sector etc. are essential for sustaining economic, social and political well-being of a state. Their exposure to risk posed by criminal adversaries and natural disasters such as sabotage, terrorism and natural disasters such as fire may seriously undermine public safety, social order, survival of state and citizens may be put at risk and the fulfilment of key government responsibilities can be jeopardised. Equally, the nature of their interdependence and inter-connected infrastructure systems gives rise to a phenomenon known as “cascading events” where a disruption in one sector is to have rippling effect in other thus the need for a national risk management plan for critical infrastructure protection.

To this end, security management practitioner (SMP) course therefore, has been developed to respond to these needs by equipping various categories of security managers ranging from Senior and middle level with key performance competencies essential for an adaptive modern security manager that are responsive to national risk management strategies, global trends and evidence-based approaches.
